dimension with members in multiple groups

Hallo
I need to implement geographic dimension, which should be able to group regi
ons into region groups. Though, it must be
possible to have one region in multiple region groups simultaneously. It's a
typical application mentioned in this
excellent document from Marc Russo "Many to many revolution". But the soluti
on provided does not allow to have facts on
the branch hierarchies, which is needed in case of my geography dimension. A
ny ideas ?Marcel,
Geographic (and related) dimensions are funny things because there is no
singular hierarchy. For example, Kansas City is in both Kansas and Missouri
and is treated as two nodes if you are comparing it to state. If you are
comparing it to a Metropolitan Statistic Area, both are considered to be in
the Kansas City MSA.
You may want to have different dimensions for the different levels, it all
depends on your requirements. If you always distinguish Kansas City, KS vs.
Kansas City, MO then one City, State dimension works. If you alway consider
Kansas City to be both KS an MO, then a MSA (or similar) dimension is
needed.
Incidentally, there are no facts on branch (I'm assuming you mean snowflake)
hierarchies. I'm sure Celko has good examples on this one.
